Birds or no BIRDS E-mail

Do you have problems with birds in your chimney?

At first glance the solution is simple... to install a screen inside the chimney cap. There are however several small details to consider when doing so. A stainless steel screen is preferable and does not need to be changed every year. Holes in the screen should be ½" squared. You may have to climb onto the roof during the winter in order to clean the screen due to creosote accumulation. You will know when your screen needs cleaning when you open the door of the wood burning unit and notice that the smoke comes out instead of going up the chimney.

A chimney sweeper or a specialty retailer who sells such screens would be able to provide you with more information on this topic.
