Are you within regulations when it comes to clearances?

We must pay special attention to combustible materials and clearances. For a wood stove, you will find the information located on a plate or sticker at the back of the unit. It will indicate the minimum distance the unit must be from any combustible materials.

It is possible to reduce this distance by installing a protective shield behind the unit. There are several models available. A specialized retailer would be able to assist you in choosing the model best suited for your unit.

Nowadays, it is common practice to use a double-walled smoke pipe. These pipes require a clearance of only 6 inches from combustible materials. However, there are many older types currently used which do not meet today's safety standards. A single-wall smoke pipe must be at least 18 inches away from any combustible material. It is possible to reduce this distance by installing a protective shield. Again, a specialized retailer would be able to assist you in choosing the model best suited for your needs.
